The health of the population and the well-being of each individual are major issues for the future of the country and lie at the heart of government action (Fa’atura).
Moetai Brotherson, President of the country, Cédric Mercadal, Minister of Health, Taivini Teai, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by several other government members, inaugurated the Feti’a Ora kiosk on Friday, August 25.
The ceremony was also attended by several representatives of the Assembly of French Polynesia (APF), Toate Philippe Biarez, Director of Health (DS) and his team, Philippe Couraud, Director of Agriculture (DAG), Thomas Mouthame, tāvana of the commune of Taputapuatea, and other dignitaries. On this occasion, a class from Saint Jean-Baptiste Elementary School had the exclusive opportunity to visit the facilities and the vegetable garden.
This new initiative from the Directorate of Health, the Feti’a Ora kiosk, replaces the previous Health Info Kiosk that was installed in Paofai and closed at the start of the health crisis in March 2020.
Feti’a Ora, or “the star that guides life”, primarily targets children and adolescents in the urban area of Papeete. Located on Rue Frère Alain (opposite La Mennais Middle and High School, in the former COVID-19 platform premises), it benefits from an ideal location close to schools, middle schools, and high schools in the city center. The kiosk is intended to become a true living space—welcoming, friendly, and easily accessible.
Its main objectives are to:
Promote a healthy lifestyle by educating the public on essential preventive measures;
Make health and physical activity information clear and engaging, so that children and adolescents are aware and involved;
Provide a space for communication and training for health promotion and prevention associations.
So that elementary, middle, and high school students can take ownership of the space and make it a must-visit location for their personal or school research on health topics.
Regular events will be organized, including:
Cooking workshops highlighting local fruits, vegetables, and herbs to explore on-site in the nourishing vegetable garden;
Monthly activities with health professionals or associations on various themes such as healthy and balanced nutrition, sports and physical activity, sexual health, contraception, and addiction prevention;
Discussion groups to support the implementation of health education and prevention projects;
Visits to the kiosk for primary and secondary schools.
